Foreign Trade

AGE (Galician Publishers' Association) is working on the promotion of foreign trade through actions that make Galician publishers' production known, by attending International Book Fairs, establishing international trade relationships with Latin-American and European publisher associations, and organizing specialized training for Galician publishing workers. The expansion experienced by some small Galician publishers in the international context boosts the initiatives in the foreign trade field. In 2008 three copyright catalogues were published by AGE, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Galicia: children's and young adults' literature, adults' literature and a trilingual catalogue of publishers. The same institution published two interesting resources in the internet so as to make the Galician production visible through Read Galicia (http://www.readgalicia.com) and Galician Books ( http://www.galicianbooks.com).

ORIENTATIONS OF CULTURE INDUSTRY IN THE WORLD

During the second half of the 20th century, international relations and exchanges increase considerably and publishing proves to be one of the most active sectors of the culture industry. That intense and complex activity of popularizing cultural products was followed by the localization processes of the world culture industry corporations. Companies need to make their investments profitable and to be open to new markets and public.

The European Union White Paper establishes the bases for the direction of cultural policies for the next century by setting open systems and developing international strategies that allow companies to form alliances. Its final aim is to open a third market by ending discrimination, as well as to ensure the participation, with no exclusions, of its cultural and linguistic pluralism.
